We’ve all been there. You’re keeping pace with friends or racing buddies, only to hear a stomach-turning clunk or hiss. You hastily pull off the trail and assess the damage, hoping someone else knows how to fix it—or that the trailhead isn’t as far as you think.

The truth is, it’s no fun to feel helpless on a mountain bike. To give you more confidence for your epic rides and races this year, we’re bringing in pro bike mechanic Casey Wytaske for a special mountain bike repair workshop from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, at the National Center for Youth Development headquarters in Minneapolis.

Bring yourself, your mountain bike, and the bag of tools you typically carry for an intensive hands-on session focused on repairing two of the most commonly encountered ride and race enders: flat tires and dysfunctional chains. Because practice makes perfect (or at least helps a skill to stick), you’ll put your newfound MTB repair skills to use with guidance from the pro. You’ll have the opportunity to ask your MTB repair questions in a safe space, helping us all spend less time hiking a bike this season.

You’ll get Casey’s pro tips for the following:

  • Repairing a chain

  • Maintaining a chain

  • Plugging a tire

  • Changing a tire

  • Inserting a tube

  • Adjusting your derailleur and cable

  • Packing your trailside repair toolkit

What to expect:

  • A safe, welcoming space for all riders

  • A chance to win the Stöke Sisters’ favorite tire and repair tool: Wolf Tooth’s Pack Pliers!

  • Beverages provided by our friends at Bauhaus Brew Labs

  • Light snacks (no hangry bike cranking)

  • Lots of laughs and stoke for the upcoming MTB season
